There is A Future/Tenemos un futuro, a bilingual performance that premiered in the summer or 2023 as an outdoor show in collaboration with Night Out in the Parks, and then ran at Free Street’s storefront, followed by a tour of Chicago cultural centers, used puppetry, physical comedy, and interactive storytelling to invite audiences to explore the impact of industrial “sacrifice zones” on community health on the Southside. “It can be a depressing topic but we work really hard to make it fun, hopeful, and galvanizing,” says co-director and Strategic Director Coya Paz. “There IS a future for our neighborhoods. But are we in it?”
Directed by Elizabeth Nungaray and Coya Paz. “There Is a Future” featured puppets and projections by Chio Cabrera, sets by installation artist Josue Esau, lights by Conchita Avitia, and sound from musician Anais Ortiz. The cast includes Sharaina Turnage, Chio Cabrera, Mari DeOlio, David Piñeda, and Michelle Luna. During the summer of 2024, During its original Night Out in the Parks run, the cast also featured Alfonzo Kahlil.
