1969: With the support of the Illinois Arts Council, Free Street is founded by Goodman School alum Patrick Henry, who recruits a multiracial team with the vision of using theater to break down “the artificial barriers that divide us.” The company starts as a touring ensemble, performing in public spaces around the city.
