Youth Ensemble FAQ:
What is the youth ensemble? Made up of ten teens ages 14-19, the youth ensemble is a year-long program where youth are paid to learn ensemble-created theatre techniques while making an original play about a Chicago social justice issue.
When does the program meet? The program meets from 5pm – 7pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. More dates added in March and April as we approach the show.
When is the show? The show is in May!
It’s paid? Yes, youth are paid per rehearsal and performance. Students can make up to $1500 in a year.
What else? Along with community, training and performance opportunities, students access mentorship from Free Street artists, have a show designed by professional designers, interview activists, go on field trips, and can expect career & resume support.
What do I need to prepare for the audition? Nothing! The audition functions like a workshop, we see how you collaborate and create.
Do I need experience in theatre? Not necessarily! We intentionally bring together youth with varying experience in art. Students often come with leadership, organizing, or other experience in social justice.
