Why support Free Street? Fr
ee Street Theater has been at the forefront of the movement to create affordable and inclusive innovative theatre. We’ve worked hard to remove the economic barriers that keep so many from experiencing or participating in theatre. We pay all of our artists a minimum of $15/hour, keep all of our shows free or pay-what-you-can, provide food for our ensembles during late night rehearsals, and offer transportation support to our youth ensembles.
We work all across the city, concentrating our work in our neighborhoods of Back of the Yards, McKinley Park, and Noble Square. In short, making radical free theatre is not free to make, and your ticket purchase & attendance, or donation, helps us to keep bringing this work to Chicago audiences, and creating meaningful participation &employment pathways for artists.
