UPSIDEDOWN SCHOOL

Creatures of the Air, Land and Sea. 2010

The UpsideDownSchool (USDS) is a summer arts camp for youth ages 5-11 that uses song, dance, story-telling and visual arts to explore a science topic.  At the end of the journey, participants present an original performance or exhibit in the studio at Free Street Theater.

Last year, the UpsideDown School participants traveled through the mythical world of creatures of the land, sky and sea.  They learned about ancient myths, explored animal movements and developed an original play.

The UpsideDown School is led by teaching-artist Shanel Jackson, a 12-year teaching artist, performer and expressive arts therapist.  Each afternoon includes swimming and other outdoor play at Pulaski Park.

USDS started with a bang June 20 and ends July 19, 2011. To follow their adventures, follow Free Street on Facebook!
