Stephanie Diaz’s Mariposa Nocturna.

In addition to creating original ensemble performances, Free Street is committed to helping artists develop new work through our IN/HOUSE Incubator Series. Each year, we select 2-3 project proposals from artists who share our vision of making theater that expands the range of representation in our city.   In exchange for space, production staff, and marketing assistance, IN/HOUSE artists offer free public workshops and serve as mentors to our emerging artists. In 2017, our IN/HOUSE projects include NIGHT OF THE LIVING MOMS, a four day festival of performance focused on parenting curated by Lani Montreal. In 2015-2016, our IN/HOUSE projects included Melissa DuPrey’s SUSHIFRITO (it was so good, we hired her to be our General Manager!); Lily Be’s NO HAY MAL QUE POR BIEN NO VENGA (coming back in January 2017)!; and Ricardo Gamboa and Sean Parris’s SPACE AGE. Previous IN/HOUSE projects have included: Stephanie Diaz’s MARIPOSA NOCTURNA (pictured above), the Youth Empowerment Project (YEPP)’s FACES, and Chloe Johnston’s 101: ZEN STORIES.

Proposals for the 2016-2017 season will open in August 2016.
