Ashley reading to Burmese children 2010

Ashley walked through Free Street’s doors in September 2005 on direct urging from her cousin. At first, Free Street’s process seemed out of her comfort zone. She quickly recognized that for the first time, she was treated like an artist, and not a belittled teen. Five years later, Ashley joined Free Street’s International Embassies program in Thailand.

During her Free Street tenure, Ashley created and performed in 6 productions: Her Notorious Quill, Had Enough, Ritual Public Performances (for 2 summers), Sub-Prime Youth, and To Kill a Teenager, Seven Sins of a Juvenile Mind.

Her most rewarding Free Street experience:

“Finding beauty in simply releasing my ego or what my friends thought of me and just learning to be real in theater and real with myself.”
